A Wardrobe’s Worth of Kindness: Village Collective’s Clothing Drive Delivers
Village Collective brought neighbors together on Wednesday, July 15th for “The Great Closet Cleanout,” a clothing drive held at 302 Wheaton from 12 to 2pm.
Drop boxes were set up and monitored throughout the two-hour window, giving families across Wheaton, Warrenville, and Winfield an easy way to pass along seasonal clothing to neighbors who needed it most.
Twenty families took part, turning out with bags and boxes of clothing to donate. By the end of the two hours, the drive had collected 279 pounds of clothing, all of it headed to the People’s Resource Center of Wheaton and to women and children in Outreach Ministries’ transitional housing programs.
The event highlighted just how much community members are willing to show up for one another. The turnout brought a real sense of enthusiasm, and the partnership with 302 Wheaton, which hosted the drive, made it possible to pull off smoothly. The People’s Resource Center passed along its thanks afterward, sharing that they “wouldn’t be able to help our neighbors without the help of our community partners.”
Village Collective continues to focus on building rapport between neighbors while meeting real, practical needs in a community feeling the squeeze of a costlier economy. Look for their next community event in September.
This event is supported by the American Stewardship Initiative (ASI), which advances a leadership framework that encourages civic engagement and strengthens communities. ASI works to revitalize American cities through nonpartisan, solutions-driven efforts addressing today’s most pressing challenges.
